Join us at Making Worlds Bookstore in highlighting the interconnectedness of liberation struggles from Philly to Palestine. Author Susan Abulhawa will discuss formerly incarcerated youth activist Ahed Tamimi’s memoir They Called Me A Lioness: A Palestinian Girl’s Fight for Freedom, along with a panel including local activists and formerly incarcerated individuals working to shut down the Philly women’s jail. The event will fundraise for 2025 Black Mama’s Bail Out. A Librarians and Archivists with Palestine 2025 “One Book, Many Communities” event.
Susan Abulhawa (she/her) is a Palestinian American novelist and political activist. She is founder of the Palestine Writes Literature Festival and of Playgrounds for Palestine.
Madusa Carter (they/them) is an activist, rapper, artist, and community organizer. Originally from Harrisburg, they have lived experience with the criminal legal system. They previously worked as an organizer with Reclaim Philadelphia, and they are currently the lead organizer with the Still We Rise Freedom Coalition.
Imrul Mazid (he/him) is an organizer with both Still We Rise Freedom Coalition and with Philly Runners for Justice in Palestine. He has a masters from UPenn in Nonprofit Management as well as a masters from Columbia in Sociology and Education. He is one of the founders of the Philly Muslim Freedom Fund, a bail fund that uplifts Muslims oppressed by the carceral state.
Rachel Santiago (she/her) is an organizer with the Still We Rise Freedom Coalition. She is a mother, advocate, and directly impacted person who fights to create systemic change to the judiciary system.
