This study group is an invitation for care workers and care practitioners to come together in the pursuit of understanding the structures that undergird our systems of care, specifically the medical-industrial complex. Over the course of four sessions, we will read sections of Inflamed: Deep Medicine and the Anatomy of Injustice, to understand the impact of racial capitalism on our social and collective bodies. As many of us know, our environments and institutions often determine our health outcomes--what is our role as care workers to intervene in these systems and establish networks of our own that create agency and collective determination? This study group aims to be a collaborative space to offer possibilities of networks of care locally and in practice. This group aims not just to define health autonomy, but to seed tangible building blocks for the practice. After four sessions, we will assess the possibilities for further work and collaboration. For the purposes of this group, “care workers” includes: parents, child/adult caregivers, educators, organizers, medical and therapeutic practitioners, and practitioners of traditional medicine-ways in addition to anyone who self-defines as a care worker.
The Inflamed Study Group is the second part of an ongoing series. New participants are always welcome!
Masks are required at the study group!
