Puerto Rican Decolonization

  • Making Worlds Bookstore & Social Center 210 South 45th Street Philadelphia, PA, 19104 United States (map)

Opening new ground for the case for decolonization of Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a Caribbean Nation forged over four hundred years that was invaded by the United States and whose people continue to struggle for their independence and social justice. Please join Olga Sanabria Dávila for a discussion regarding the colonial situation of Puerto Rico and the importance of the application of international law to the colonial case. A current update of the situation on the ground in Puerto Rico will be shared.

The case of Puerto Rico is important for left and anti-imperialist forces in the United States because there are five million Puerto Ricans living in this country and their struggle for independence simultaneously takes place in the United States and on the island. Puerto Ricans living in the United States also share common living conditions and objectives with all progressive sectors in this country, including so-called "minorities."
